Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center promotes Megan Agee as new director
Recently appointed afterschool program director to focus efforts in 2012 on forging deeper community connections
San Francisco, California, United States., February 8, 2012 - (PressReleasePoint) - The Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center (SNBC), widely considered as one of the nation’s best afterschool programs, recently announced Megan Agee as its new director.
Agee was promoted to director when SNBC founder and previous director, Michael Funk, transitioned to a position with the California Department of Education.
A graduate of Stanford University, Agee has been with the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center since October 2002 and has worked in a variety of capacities. She began as SNBC's community organizer, later served as the director of community programs and most recently was the center’s deputy director.
In her new role, Agee oversees a staff of 19 full-time employees and nearly 100 part-time workers and is responsible for providing organizational leadership, developing new partnerships, and maximizing SNBC's ability to meet the needs and interests of the Sunset community.
In 2012, Agee plans to build on SNBC’s more than 15 years of service to the Sunset District by deepening connections with a growing pool of SNBC alumni and supporters and advancing ongoing efforts to integrate SNBC’s array of services that connect people to their passion, potential, and community.
Agee has extensive non-profit experience having previously conducted legislative work in Sacramento for a foster youth advocacy organization, worked for First 5 California, the state government agency devoted to providing comprehensive services for children and families during a child's first five years of life, and served as an AmeriCorps member, coordinating youth service-learning programs for a collaborative agency throughout Palo Alto and East Palo Alto.
A program of Aspiranet, SNBC is a community development nonprofit in San Francisco’s Sunset District, providing daily afterschool programs, adult education opportunities, technology and media arts classes, and family support services. The center serves more than 900 youth daily and over 300 adults weekly at five middle and elementary schools and a recreation clubhouse. SNBC is recognized as one of the country’s best afterschool programs by the Afterschool Alliance and MetLife Foundation.
