The Super Girls Group was formed a few years ago by longtime fan and friend Paul Errante. Since than this spectacular all girl doo-wop group have performed at many prestigious sold out venues throughout the country.
Los Angeles, CA, May 28, 2010 (PressReleasePoint) -- Grant Williams CEO of Memory Lane Concert Cruises today announced. “The prestigious Super Girls Group will be among nine of the greatest Doo Wop recording groups that will be performing on the Oldies But Goodies Doo Wop Cruise. These groups were popular in the 50's and 60’s and will perform on this vary popular Oldies But Goodies Doo Wop Cruise.” said Williams
The Super Girls Group consists of five original members of some of the greatest female groups of the 1950s and 1960s. They are Louise Murray from The Hearts and The Jaynetts, Lillian Walker of The Exciters, Margaret Ross of The Cookies, Nanette Licari of Reparata and The Del Rons and Beverly Warren of The Raindrops.
The group, formed a few years ago by longtime fan and friend Paul Errante. It was his idea and brainchild to put these women together and has since become their manager. It has been a great match and allot of fun. They have performed many prestigious venues throughout the country. Including The Beacon Theater in NYC, The Chicago Theater in Chicago, The Orpheum Theater in Omaha, Nebraska, The Star Plaza Theater in Indiana and The Dupont Theater in Delaware as well as many local area oldies shows and benefits.
Louse Murray was an original member of The Hearts who were a pioneering female group of the 1950s. They were they first female group to score an R&B nationwide hit with "Lonely Nights" in 1955. The Hearts recorded several more sides but none matched the success of "Lonely Nights". Louise then left The Hearts with some of the other women in the group and then a few years they got back together under the name of The Jaynetts. The Jaynetts scored a huge hit in 1963 with "Sally Go 'Round The Roses".
Several sound alike releases followed including the minor hit "Dear Abby", which was released as another Hearts single. After a few years, Louise left The Jaynetts and started a solo career. In later years, Louise performed with her husband as The Two Hearts and had a few different Hearts groups before joining The Super Girls Group.
Lillian Walker is an original member of The Exciters who in 1962 recorded the monster hit "Tell Him". They followed that up with the equally powerful "He's Got The Power." They also recorded the original version of The Manfred Mann hit, "Doo Wah Diddy" as well as a fantastic cover of The Jarmels hit, "A Little Bit of Soap".
The Exciters were popular in England in the 1960s and did an extensive tour of the country in 1964. They also were the opening act for The Beatles on their first U.S. tour. One of their later releases, "Blowin Up My Mind" was a big hit in England. After The Exciters had broken up, Lillian made a few solo appearances throughout the years until she teamed up with The Super Girls Group.
Margaret Ross joined The Cookies in 1962, a group whose history dates from 1954. Margaret joined just in time to sing on the Cookies two biggest hits- "Chains" and "Don't Say Nothin' Bad (About My Baby)". The Cookies were also one of the greatest background groups of the 1960s. The sang background on records by Ben E. King, Len Barry, Freddie Scott, Neil Sedaka, Little Eva, Eydie Gorme, Tony Orlando and LaVerne Baker, just to name a few.
The Cookies recorded under many pseudonyms including The Cinderellas, The Palisades and The Honey Bees. All the singles released under these names featured Margaret on lead. Throughout the years, Margaret has kept herself busy in the music business. She has been active singing in her church as well as performing R&B and oldies classics at many different events. She also is a member of Barbara Harris & The Toys. There were a couple of Cookies reunions in the 90s but to no lasting benefit.
Beverly Warren started out singing Doo-Wop on the corners and subways of her Queens’s neighborhood with many different groups. A couple of years after that, she came to the attention of famous singer and songwriter Ellie Greenwich who produced her first couple of singles but, unfortunately none of them charted.
Ellie then became Beverly's manager and decided to place her in a new project that she and her husband and songwriting partner Jeff Barry were putting together which was an act called The Raindrops. The Raindrops went on to have two Top 40 Hits- "The Kind of Boy You Can't Forget" and "What A Guy". They did some touring on the east coast and in the midwest and then Raindrops had broken up. Beverly went on to have an interesting and varied career in the music business.
Beverly did many radio jingles, commercials and voice-overs. She also sang jazz, pop and rock music throughout the 70s and 80s. From the 80s through today, she has sung with top local oldies groups, bands and a capella groups including a stint with The Teenchords.
On April 10th 2011, the Oldies But Goodies cruise will leave from Los Angeles, California aboard Carnival's new ship, the Splendor on a seven-day sailing to the Mexican Riviera. You will enjoy the most Romanic and exciting ports of Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. Performers include the Arlene Smith’s Chantels, Johnnie and Joe, Six Teens, Pentagons, Olympics, Super Girls Group, which features artists from the Hearts/Jaynetts, Exciters, Cookies, and Rainbows. Also appearing are the legendary Calvanes, Elgins and Vel Omarr’s Sam Cooke tribute.
