The Emerson Wellness and Clark Aquatic Center, located on the campus of the Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community, has been certified LEED® Silver by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Tacoma, Washington—May 25, 2010—The Emerson Wellness and Clark Aquatic Center, located on the campus of the Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community, has been certified LEED® Silver by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The wellness center was completed under budget in December 2009 by Rushforth Construction, the Pacific Northwest region office of Adolfson & Peterson Construction (A&P).

The LEED^®(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. The wellness center met USGBC requirements for the use of renewable energy, locally sourced materials, certified wood, low-VOC carpet, natural daylight and views, and for incorporating features that reduce water and energy and minimize the heat island effect. In addition, during construction of the center nearly all of the construction waste was diverted from landfill sites.
