Feed The Children Delivers Truck to Benefit 400 Ambler Area Families
(March 31, 2014) - On Saturday, April 5, Feed The Children will deliver one semi tractor-trailer full of food and essentials to help 400 Ambler area families. The food and essentials will be distributed at 9 a.m. at Matie N. Dixon Community Cupboard, Inc. in Ambler (150 N Main St).
The distribution is sponsored by 16-year-old Brooke Rhea, as she raised money for a truck load of food and essentials to help 400 families. Since Rhea was six years old, she has been raising money through community car washes to sponsor trucks through Feed The Children. Each year to honor her birthday, she holds a car wash to raise money to help the less fortunate. She will be celebrating “The Decade of Caring” by sponsoring her third truck to help families in her hometown of Ambler, Pennsylvania.
Nearly one in 5 children living in Pennsylvania (19.1 percent) is considered impoverished. In fact, the number of children living in poverty in the state (522,189) could fill PNC Park more than 13 times.
Feed The Children partner agency, Matie N. Dixon Community Cupboard, Inc., has pre-identified families receiving the boxes. Each family will receive a 25-pound box of food and a 10-pound box of personal care items. The boxes are designed to help a family of four for up to one week.
“We are so thankful to Brooke Rhea for helping to provide food and essentials to children and their families,” said Erin Engelke, spokesperson for Feed The Children. "We hope people will help us put more trucks on the road and provide assistance for fellow Americans who are suffering through the current economic downturn.”
Rhea’s 11th annual car wash is being planned for June.
