Telecom New Zealand today welcomed the Government’s announcement on targets for rural broadband.

“Today’s announcement is a great sign of progress and commitment to a future of ubiquitous fast broadband for all New Zealanders who need it, and one that Telecom supports,” said CEO Paul Reynolds.

“It’s beyond dispute that rural and remote New Zealand, where so much of our national wealth is generated, needs access to fast broadband as a spur to innovation, productivity and other gains.

“The massive investment activity Telecom already has under way is already delivering broadband speeds that few other countries can match.

“We are investing and working alongside communities to get faster broadband further than ever before.

“In line with the Government’s broadband vision, now it’s time to go further.

“Telecom looks forward to the release of more details on both today’s announcement, and the Broadband Investment Initiative itself,” Dr Reynolds said.
