  • Prof. Anja Feldmann is a prime example of the high caliber of scientists and profound expertise at T-Labs

  • T-Labs: New name - new role - new management

  • Entrepreneurial spirit, outstanding researchers and developers - source of new ideas and solutions

Today the established Leibniz lecture is taking place in Berlin on the occasion of the award ceremony. This is attended by numerous representatives from the worlds of business and science, including Edward R. Kozel, Chief Innovation and Technology Officer (CTIO) of Deutsche Telekom. "We are proud that Prof. Anja Feldmann, one of our professors, has received this accolade for her scientific works about the Internet", says Kozel. "T-Labs is a perfect example of a successful marriage of science and business. It already has a track record of exceptional achievements and in particular it has built up profound knowledge with excellent research and development professionals for our core subjects. A new direction means that T-Labs will focus even more on the development of new products and services for Telekom customers in future".

Telekom Innovation Laboratories: driver for innovations

"Innovation" has been added to the name to indicate this new direction. With its approximately 360 employees from 20 countries at sites in Berlin, Darmstadt, Bonn, Los Altos (USA) and Beer Sheva (Israel), T-Labs is therefore now officially called Telekom Innovation Laboratories (T-Labs).

Heinrich Arnold has been appointed manager of the new T-Labs. The innovation manager - a former Stanford student and doctoral graduate - has already managed numerous organizational and strategic projects in an innovation context, was co-founder of several companies and was previously head of the Innovation Development department at T-Labs. "At T-Labs we concentrate on Telekom's core business and combine the best of the three worlds of entrepreneurship, science and Telekom expertise to achieve the best possible effect for the Telekom business", says Arnold about his new role.

The new focus of the work at T-Labs is on the development of applications and services for interactive media and new telecommunications applications, as well as in the areas Connected Home, Machine-to-Machine (M2M), Smart Grid and Mobile Payment. It will continue focusing on cloud applications, the development of broadband networks and the optimization of Telekom's infrastructure.

In addition to its work with scientists, T-Labs will increase its cooperation with start-ups that are a significant driver of innovations. Berlin as the headquarters of T-Labs and as the nucleus of the European start-up scene offers ideal conditions for this. Integration with non-European innovation scenes is achieved with branches in Los Altos in Silicon Valley (USA) and Beer Sheva (Israel).

An example of the high level of competence at T-Labs is Prof. Anja Feldmann, PhD, who holds the endowed chair of "Intelligent networks and management of distributed systems" of Telekom Innovation Laboratories at TU Berlin. Prof. Feldmann received the 2011 Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize for her findings on network optimization. Feldmann is considered the Internet expert in Germany and is also well regarded internationally. In particular with her work on Internet traffic analysis and modeling as well as Internet routing, she has already had a considerable impact on the practical development of the Internet, beyond the fundamental research.
