Telstra today announced that under its joint venture with Microland, Telstra Telecommunications Private Limited (TTPL) has been awarded three new licences to provide customers in India with international and national long-distance telecommunications and ISP services.
The new licences will see Telstra International begin with the provision of services in seven cities - Bangalore, Calcutta, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune - offering customers a resilient, cost effective, flexible network that is tailored to suit individual business needs within the next six months.
Mumbai and Chennai will be Telstra’s Indian international gateways connecting into its world-class international backbone network, which will provide customers with direct routes into networks in Europe and Asia.
Aside from local contract billing capabilities, customers can also benefit from Telstra’s suite of connectivity and managed services, and enhanced in-country service centre support.
As a result, Telstra will have greater control of service performance and customer experience, while providing enterprises with more comprehensive end-to-end managed services. Telstra will also extend its industry standard service level agreements, offer higher levels of service monitoring, and help reduce risks with multi-level resiliency and redundancy in network design.
Mr Tarek Robbiati, Group Managing Director for Telstra International Group (TIG) said the licences will enable Telstra International to support the inflow of businesses setting up operations in India as well as local companies expanding into emerging markets by giving them access to Telstra’s robust and resilient connectivity in Asia and globally.
“Telstra International operates one of the largest and most diverse networks in Asia Pacific. This development reinforces our foothold as an Asian network specialist and communications service provider with offices and licences in 12 Asia Pacific countries”, he said.
“Today’s announcement demonstrates Telstra’s ongoing commitment to invest in India and is a key milestone for us in expanding our comprehensive suite of services to customers seeking global reach to address their growth plans, while providing relevant local insight and support,” Mr Robbiati concluded.
