- Telstra selects Ericsson's next generation optical network equipment for its long-haul and metro networks across Australia
- Telstra will expand the capacity of its national optical transport network with Ericsson's 100Gbps technology
- Ericsson's highly scalable optical products enable Telstra to meet the ever growing demand for video, broadband and cloud-based services of the Networked Society
Today at Mobile World Congress Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) announced that Telstra has selected Ericsson's next generation optical technology to expand the capacity of its metropolitan, regional and inter-capital long-haul optical networks.
Ericsson will provide the latest in metro optical equipment with the SPO 1400 family and the MHL3000 for long-haul applications, including support for 100Gbps services.
Telstra Executive Director for Networks and Access Technology, Mike Wright said: "This technology evolution adds to our existing network foundation and allows for an efficient evolution through significantly increasing capacity, reducing latency and streamlining our operations."
Håkan Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Australia, New Zealand and Fiji said: "Ericsson is pleased to continue with Telstra to build one of the largest, fastest, and most robust optical networks in the world. With exponential growth in traffic driven by video, broadband and cloud, this upgrade will allow Telstra's customers to enjoy a superior user experience."
Ericsson's next generation optical network solution includes the latest in 100Gbps transmission, ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add Drop Multiplexer) and DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology with Multiservice DWDM and Packet Optical Transport Platform (POTP) equipment.
The adoption of Ericsson's integrated optical network solution can reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) by significantly reducing the number of network elements and equipment space and consolidate operations and maintenance for the entire network with reduced power consumption.
This win expands Ericsson's optical technology role with Telstra from being the leading vendor for long-haul optical transmission to being the prime supplier for metro, regional and inter-cityoptical networks.
