The Fellows Ambassador position is a critical component of the Fellows Program; Ambassadors function as chief liaisons for the Fellow to the broader community and are tasked with integrating Fellows into life on the University of Chicago campus. The ambassadorship requires a commitment of approximately 4-6 hours per week.

Responsibilities include

  • Assisting the Fellow in preparing for their weekly seminars (e.g., conducting research, preparing Powerpoint slides, etc)

  • Arriving early at each seminar to help check in guests and set up the room

  • Running all aspects of the seminar (making announcements, keeping track of time, assisting with visual aides, etc)

  • Publicizing and promoting the seminars each week in creative ways

  • Collaborating with student groups and other Ambassadors to plan and organize Fellow events

  • Organizing off-campus activities for the Fellow

  • Attending weekly 30-minute meetings at the Institute of Politics

As a reminder, our Fall 2014 Fellow lineup includes the following distinguished individuals:

  • Eliseo Medina, former Secretary-Treasurer of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) who was described by the Los Angeles Times as “one of the most successful labor organizers in the country”

  • Patrick Murphy, a former Democratic congressman from Pennsylvania, the first Iraq veteran to serve in Congress, and host of the MSNBC show “Taking The Hill”

  • Steve Schmidt, a Republican political strategist who has advised presidential and gubernatorial candidates such as George W.
