Cricket NSW is calling for clubs and individual players to be part of the inaugural summer of the Breakers Junior Cricket League – a new competition designed to help young girls get involved in Australia’s Favourite Sport.
The Breakers Junior Cricket League is based in Metropolitan Sydney and provides opportunities to girls who have graduated from entry level programs, like MILO in2CRICKET and MILO T20 Blast Girls, and who now want to continue playing junior cricket.
The competition is named after the NSW women’s cricket team, the Lend Lease Breakers, who are one of the most successful sporting teams in Australia having won the last nine consecutive Women’s National Cricket League titles.
Starting on 11 October 2014, Breakers Junior Cricket League matches will take place on Saturday’s between 2pm and 4:30pm and there will be three divisions available in 2014/15:
U/15 Division One: Girls aged between 12-14 years
U/18 Division One: Girls aged between 15-17 years
Open Division Two: Girls aged between 12-17 years
All divisions are run by Cricket NSW, with Division One designed to provide a stepping stone to the Sydney Women’s Grade competition.
Division Two caters primarily to new players with modified rules and soft cricket balls providing girls with the chance to develop their skills in a safe and relaxed environment.
For the inaugural summer teams will be divided into two pools – North East and South East.
Each division will also have two seasons with the Spring season running for eight weeks between October and December, while the Summer season operates from January to March with six preliminary rounds and two weeks of finals.
