The highly anticipated dark comedy, Greetings! From Prison, begins its release on June 16th. Created by comedian filmmaker Tommy Beardmore, the show follows a group of prisoners on visitation day and the absurd world they live in. The series is a prime example of the growing trend in New Media Indie Film where the creator oversees the project in every phase of development from concept to market.
Chicago, IL. - June 14, 2014 - (PressReleasePoint) Backyard Adventure Club Productions has announced today its release of the first season of Greetings! From Prison, a highly stylized dark comedy series shot entirely on Chicago's Northside. Created by actor and producer Tommy Beardmore, the show follows the absurd world of a prison's inmates and staff during visitation day and the wide range of characters who drop by.
"Without any hesitation, I can say that Chicago is filled to the brim with comedy talent and true filmmaking professionals" said Beardmore, who has appeared in TV shows such as Shameless, Chicago PD, and the upcoming drama/sci-fi series Convergence. "We didn't hold one casting session or interview. We knew exactly who we wanted for both sides of the camera and I was grateful to get everyone's support." Beardmore, along with his creative partner Chris Pagnozzi, teamed up with Lakeview Productions on the technical end and recieved financial support from Executive Producers Brendan and Sonia Wilson of El Oso Diablo Productions.
Shot on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, the 10-episode series is directed by Telly and Addy winner Matthew Byori Mann, Emmy nominated director of photography Chris Gearhart, and Daniel Skubal with 5 Emmy nominations and 1 win who shot and edited the series. Chicago author and comedian, David Himmel, was brought on board to write the show while Beardmore and Pagnozzi served as story consultants. Tony Green composed the original music along with his Greenhouse Sound Orchestra.
Starring in the series is Rusty Schwimmer (Louie, The Perfect Storm), Bruce Jarchow (Parks & Recreation, Seinfeild), Gregory Hollimon (Strangers With Candy), Phillip Edward Van Lear (Chicago Code, Prison Break), as well as Beardmore, Himmel, and Pagnozzi. Additional cast includes Second City comedians Michael Gellman, Niccole Thurman, Chris Redd and Nancy McCabe-Kelly. Rounding out the cast are Chicago comedians John Reynolds, Joey Romaine, A.J Miller, Danny Groh, Brendan Hannigan, Paul Grondy, Jess Gisin, Adam Shalzi, Sherra Lasley, Noah Gregoropolous, Patrick Michael Kenney, and Drennen Quinn.
As far as distribution, Beardmore isn't commiting to anything just yet. "We've had a handful of offers, but we're waiting for the right opportunity. We literally just postmarked the series to New York, so it's early yet." He maintains that choosing the New Media route was a deciding element in creating the series in the first place. "We're in an exciting time for indie film. If you have the technical and artistic means, New Media allows disintermediation which gives us an opportunity to produce a product with complete artistic control while independently seeking distribution platforms which suit our particular vision."
