Three of the top elite female sporting teams in Canberra united on Wednesday to formally launch the 2017/18 summer of women’s sport.

The University of Canberra Capitals, Canberra United and the Abode Hotels ACT Meteors held a combined season launch at Manuka Oval, highlighting the ACT as a leader in supporting Australian women’s sport.

University of Canberra Capitals General Manager Matthew Phelps said the club was looking forward to kicking off the summer of sport in Canberra.

Everyone at the University of Canberra Capitals is excited to launch the summer of sport in Canberra with our friends at Canberra United and the ACT Meteors,” Phelps said.

“Canberrans love sport and it’s great that we’re able to provide the community with high-quality women’s sporting action over the coming months.”

Cricket ACT CEO Cameron French said that by coming together to launch their respective seasons, it will showcase the strength of Women’s Sport in the ACT.

“Across our three teams, the ACT is home to some of the most exciting female athletes in Australia” French said.

“We encourage the Canberra community to continue to throw their support behind our local teams as they strive for success this summer.”

Both the University of Canberra Capitals and the Abode Hotels ACT Meteors will commence their 2017/18 campaigns this weekend, while Canberra United still have a few more weeks of pre-season with Round 1 on October 28.

“All of us at Canberra United are very excited for the upcoming Westfield W-League season, and the Women's Summer of Sport in Canberra as a whole,” Capital Football CEO Phil Brown said

“I wish all three teams the best of luck for their upcoming seasons, and look forward to joining the rest of Canberra in supporting these athletes as they represent our region and inspiring our young players.”
