Top Safety Accreditation for Borri Ltd.
Borri Ltd. have recently aquired the SAFE contractor accreditation. The scheme recognises very high standards of health and safety practice amongst UK contractors.
Borri Ltd. is the latest company to join the SAFE contractor accreditation scheme, designed to help the Power Industry improve its safety record. The Italian based firm recently received the Accreditation in November 2009, which recognises very high standards of health and safety practice amongst UK contractors.
Employing hundreds across the globe, Borri is principally involved in the power solutions market, and has been since 1932. The company specialises in manufacturing uninterruptible power supplies and other power solutions, such as Diesel Generators. Borri turnover tens of millions globally, and deal with a number of large clients such as the NHS.
The company’s application for SAFE contractor Accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business. Mark Trolley, Maintenance Manager for Borri UK said “This is a great opportunity for Borri. It shows both our customers and competitors that we hold an excellent safety record, showing the efficiency and safety standards we set internally.”
The SAFE contractor Accreditation is expected to enhance the company’s ability to attract new contracts and its commitment to safety will be viewed positively by its insurers when the company liability policy is up for renewal. SAFE contractor is applicable to most sectors although it is particularly relevant in manufacturing, predominantly when the manufacturing process is complex.
Darren Hughes, Operations Director for SAFE contractor said, “Major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies.”
Under the SAFE contractor system, businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website. Organisations that signup to the scheme can access the database, which enables them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These employers agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have received Accreditation.
Over 100 major nationwide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.
