Touch of the Metaphysical Embellishes Ten Tales for Troubled Times from Susan Alcott Jardine’s The Channel, Stories from L.A.
November 22, 2009 – Denver, CO, and Sherman Oaks, CA (PressReleasePoint) – A former veteran of the entertainment industry, Susan Alcott Jardine, asks “Are we in control of our lives or merely at the mercy of fate?” in her debut collection of short stories, The Channel, Stories from L.A., published by Outskirts Press. In these well crafted tales, a variety of heroes and heroines experience life altering dilemmas, but only some are able to find redemption.
Each of the diverse protagonists from these ten short stories share Los Angeles as a background with the others, but they come from a wide range of society and they span more than fifty years of L.A style, from the 1950’s to the near future. In one, a Beverly Hills limo driver comes to a supernatural ending. In another, the plans of a Vietnam era music industry wunderkind are thwarted by a sudden act of violence. In a third, a woman who loses her job after many years decides to take matters into her own hands.
A Los Angeles native, Ms. Jardine has for years worked behind the scenes in the entertainment industry and has accumulated a wealth of observations from which to create both her pithy characters and her unique tales. She has worked as an actress, a music production and publishing administrator, and a writer and editor for Kenny Rogers’ Special Friends newsletter. She and her writing partner, Marc Havoc, were awarded the WGA Foundation Award for their screenplay Lullabyeland.
“Jardine is a master of the unexpected. Her collection of stories skillfully captures the unique social and psychological landscapes that define Hollywood. There is also just a hint of the mystical accompanying her profound emotional insight.” So writes free lance journalist Iris Mann in her praise of The Channel, Stories from LA.
Equal praise for the book has come from Gary Sturm, author of The Secrets of Time. “Susan Alcott Jardine writes with intelligence and insight. She is a born storyteller whose narrative draws us to the dimly lit corners of imagination.”
The Channel, Stories from LA is now available on-line through Outskirtspress.com and through other major on-line book outlets.
