Lane Switch over South Seventh Bridge this weekend

ABILENE – Starting Saturday, Feb. 10, the northbound passing lane of US 83 (Winters Freeway) over South Seventh Street will be closed for approximately seven days while contractors continue bridge rail installation. Traffic in this location will be reduced to one lane during this time.

Traffic is currently traveling in the northbound passing lane while crews work on the outer bridge rail. On Saturday, crews will begin work on the inner bridge rail and switch traffic to the driving lane while concrete railing and metal beam guard fence are installed.

Additionally, motorists on South Seventh Street should expect intermittent lane closures and delays due to construction on the bridge above.

Crew members and large, heavy equipment will be working in the area during this phase of the project. Drivers are encouraged to be especially watchful when traveling through this and all work zones, and to observe posted work zone signage.
