With millions of tourists fleeing the country during the political unrest, and with arrival numbers declining considerably in the following months, tourism experts could only foresee a negative downturn in the industry that would last indefinitely. Cancellations were inevitable and major losses were expected; however, that was only a bigger motivation for tourism authorities and tour operators to challenge these conditions and call for a comeback.

In the months following the revolution, Travco took part in several events calling for the return of tourism, and focusing on the fact that Egypt has once again become a safe destination. Festivals by the pyramids, marches in Tahrir Square and celebrations in the Red Sea were only some of the most exciting events. Moreover, encouraging local tourism and promoting Egypt’s lively destinations to its residents showed optimal success as the locals were eager to help revive the industry in every way possible.
On the other hand, Travco’s participation in calling for the return of tourists also proved to be remarkable as the number of pax arrivals for the first half of April were significantly higher than anticipated. From the 1st until the 18th of April, over 56,000 tourists came to Egypt from different areas in Europe namely Eastern Europe, EU and Scandinavian countries, as well as other countries in the Middle East, Asia and the US. Albeit these numbers only represent a 50% decrease to the ones from 2009/10, Travco remains optimistic as a faster recovery is highly probable within the next few months and during the summer as there has been an overflow of bookings from Europe to meet the high demands of curious tourists.
