Applaud Action to Extend Crucial Program; Call on House to Act
July 17, 2014
U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow today praised the U.S. Senate's approval of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2014, S. 2244, which renews the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) for seven years:
"America's travel community thanks the Senate for its vote today to reauthorize TRIA. We are particularly grateful to Chairman Johnson and Ranking Member Crapo for leading the reauthorization process.
"Since 9/11, TRIA has provided critical stability to the economy, protecting American businesses and workers from the potentially devastating economic risk of another major terrorist act. As an industry, we have already experienced economic disruption just from uncertainty over TRIA's extension. This is not a program that can be kicked down the road.
"We applaud the Senate for moving quickly and in bipartisan fashion. We urge leaders in the House to rectify any lingering concerns and advance the legislation as quickly as possible. We cannot emphasize enough how disastrous it would be for huge segments of the business community if TRIA is allowed to lapse."
