Trustees approve tuition, operating budget, take other actions
Penn State's Board of Trustees today (July 11) approved tuition and fees for the 2014-15 academic year, and the 2014-15 operating budget. The Committee on Finance, Business and Capital Planning voted yesterday to recommend the proposals for approval.
The $4.6 billion University operating budget for 2014-15 includes a $289.7 million appropriation from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, representing level funding for Penn State’s general support appropriation. For details, click here.
The approved base aggregate rate of tuition increase of 2.73 percent marks the University’s second-lowest percentage increase since 1967, and slightly lower than last year’s aggregate increase of 2.76 percent. For details, click here.
In other action, the board:
-- approved the appointments of design build teams for residence halls at the Abington and Brandywine campuses; an architect for a Student Union Building at Brandywine; final plans for phase II renovations at 300 N. Science Park Road at University Park; and final plans for renovations of Luerssen Building at Penn State Berks. For details, click here.
-- approved changing the March 2015 meeting to March 19-20. The Committee on Governance and Long-Range Planning recommended the change to eliminate scheduling conflicts for members of the board and to avoid meeting over spring break.
-- approved the granting of emeritus rank to former trustees Samuel E. Hayes Jr. and Paul V. Suhey. Hayes served first from June 1997 to January 2003 as Secretary of Agriculture. He then was appointed in March 2003 to fill an unexpired term as a representative of Agricultural Societies, and served in that capacity through June 2013. Suhey was elected to the Board of Trustees by the alumni for a three-year term beginning July 1998 and was re-elected for succeeding terms, serving through June 2013.
