DELOITTE IGNITE 09 TWITTER OPERA
TWITTERDAMMERUNG, TWITTERATA, DON TWITTER, MADAME TWITTER, TWITTERDOT, THE TWITTER OF SEVILLE –YOUR OPERA YOU DECIDE!

As part of Deloitte Ignite, the Royal Opera House, Time Out and Deloitte are twittering to the Twitterati to get them to pull together all their creative juices on Twitter and create the world’s first online opera story.

The tweets will be set to original music by composer Helen Porter entwined with some familiar opera tunes, creating a fun take on traditional opera. Whether it’s a comedy or tragedy is up to the tweeters!

Excerpts will be performed at the Royal Opera House as part of Deloitte Ignite 09. There will also be opportunities to tweet during the Deloitte Ignite festival itself on one of the 20 Deloitte laptops supplied to feed the creative process.

Alison Duthie, Head of ROH2 at the Royal Opera House commented: “It’s the people’s opera and the perfect way for everyone to become involved with the inventiveness of opera as the ultimate form of storytelling. Expect the unexpected. Who knows how the story will evolve, but get tweeting and you can play your part in your opera.”

If you tweet already just search for @youropera to see how the libretto is progressing and then simply add your line (140 characters at a time) and watch the world of Twitter be influenced by your creative flow. Tweet as little or as often as you like.

If you do not already use twitter you will need to set up an account at www.twitter.com

The Twitter opera is part of an ongoing dialogue with the Royal Opera House’s many followers on Twitter, engaging them in the creative process of writing an opera.

Interactive opportunities are increasing between the Royal Opera House and its audiences with more than 18,000 Facebook friends and more than 2,000 followers on Twitter. In addition, more than 250,000 have viewed The Royal Opera’s Carmen trailer on YouTube and over one million people have viewed the Royal Opera House YouTube channel.
