U18 veteran player Jaycee Gebhard is a forward with the Notre Dame Hounds.  She said the best part about being at the camp is being able to learn new skills and being a part of the Saskatchewan Hockey Program for her 3rd year.

Some things that Gebhard was able to learn during her time at the camp is new ways to do break-outs, fitness training, various skills on the ice and how to have a strong work ethic over a long period of time. Off the ice they take part in team bonding. This includes eating meeting together and hanging out. Gebhard says she has a different way she enjoys bonding with her teammates; “When we aren’t on the ice we like to sleep. We like our rest.”

Going into the U18 Summer camp fitness is key. “If you want to be good on the ice you need to have good fitness.” She says fitness is very important “to last for a camp like this, that last five days long you must have good fitness to be able to perform at your top every time you are on the ice.”

With the camp pulling in players and team personal from all over the province you have a change to learn many different skills from various people. “It’s nice to see how others play and it’s nice to get ideas from other players and coaches.” Gebhard adds “It’s good learning for everyone. Including coaches, players, and people watching as well.”

Gebhard was also the only Saskatchewan player named to Team Canada 2014-15 National Women’s U-18 Selection camp. The camp started on August 8th and will run to the 16th. Gebhard explains what this means to her. “It’s been a dream to always play with Team Canada. I’ve been working hard to get there and this camp (U18 Saskatchewan Summer Camp) just prepares me to get there.” Gebhard is also the only Saskatchewan born player at the camp. She says it means she will have more to prove to everyone the player that she is.

At the U18 National Women’s selection camp Gebhard got an assist in the second Red Vs White game. With one more game coming up on August 16th. For more information on the U18 Team Canada Selection Camp you can CLICK HERE.
