Ubiquisys Named Number One Femtocell Vendor by ABI Research as Industry Moves to Commercial Deployments
Swindon, England – May 8th 2008 - Ubiquisys Ltd, the leading developer of 3G femtocells, has been named the number one femtocell vendor for the second year running in an independent study by ABI Research. The announcement reflects a year in which Ubiquisys has led the way towards commercial femtocell deployment with 13 ongoing operator trials including O2 and TMobile. The ABI Research Femtocell Equipment Vendor Matrix evaluates overall rankings by investigating performance in the vital areas of Innovation and Implementation.Under Implementation, the study looked at the effectiveness of ecosystem partnerships to provide an end-to-end solution, the level of market and RFP activity, the ability to scale quickly, and the extent of carrier relationships. Ubiquisys scored strongly in all areas, with the analyst firm highlighted Ubiquisys’ “robust ecosystem” which includes such industry leaders as NEC, Motorola Nokia Siemens and Netgear.Under Innovation, ABI Research’s comprehensive study covered key metrics such as the effectiveness of macro network interference techniques, scalability, management, standards compliance, a future-proof upgrade path, and the presence of integrated residential gateways.Again, Ubiquisys scored strongly in all areas, in particular for its cognitive radio technology. “Over the past few months many operators have gone public about their femtocell deployment plans, reflecting the mobile industry’s confidence in the technology, vendors and in the business case for “home zone” offerings,” said Stuart Carlaw, ABI Research’s Vice President and Research Director. “Our research shows that Ubiquisys continues to maintain a leading position due to a number of reasons which include the commercial readiness of its product and the strength of its partner and operator relationships”“If the question is how to give affordable mobile broadband to everyone, how to multiply mobile network capacity or how to effectively roll out new network technologies, then the universal answer from mobile operators is Femtocells. So it’s not surprising that competition in this highly disruptive market is fierce,” said Chris Gilbert, Ubiquisys’ CEO. “We are therefore especially proud to receive recognition from ABI Research for our leadership in this space.”About Ubiquisys LtdUbiquisys was formed in 2004 to bring its ground-breaking ZoneGate femtocell technology to market. ZoneGate femtocells are manufactured by Sony UK Tech and are available as standalone units or as part of a residential gateway device such as Netgear’s DVG834GH. The system supports multiple interfaces to the operator’s core network, and is remotely managed and updated using standard TR-069 management systems such as Motive’s Home Device Manager.Ubiquisys’ sole focus is femtocells, and in 2007 it created the Femtoforum to promote standards and partnerships in this fast-emerging industry. In April 2008 FierceWireless named Ubiquisys in its Fierce15 for its leadership position in the 3G femtocell market. The company is funded by Accel Partners, Advent Venture Partners, Atlas Venture, Google and T-Mobile Venture Fund. For more information, visit www.ubiquisys.com.
