UC Riverside was included among the top-150 schools in the country in the recent ARWU 2014 rankings, released in August.
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — For the twelfth year in a row, the University of California, Riverside has been included among the top 150 universities in the world on the annual Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Ranking of World Universities. The survey, which bills itself as “the most trustworthy precursor of global rankings of the world’s top 500 universities,” was released on August 15, 2014.
Overall, UCR was placed in the 101-150 range among schools across the globe and in the 53-64 range within the United States.
“I am heartened to see that our faculty are being recognized in the ARWU rankings,” UCR Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Paul D’Anieri said. “UC Riverside is flourishing in its fundamental mission as a research university.”
In the narrower subject categories, UCR’s chemistry program was ranked 47th in the world.
“We are pleased to see the positive results of our efforts to increase the profile of our program,” said Chemistry Department Chair Eric Chronister. “Our continuing goal is to maintain our positive slope.”
Chronister added that he hopes to see the program achieve even higher rankings in the future.
“The five faculty searches underway in AY 2014-15 will provide a significant new opportunity to further increase the profile of the UCR Chemistry program, especially in rankings that place higher weight on composite metrics,” he said.
The UCR Department of Physics was ranked in the 151-200 range, while in Broad Subject Fields category, UCR finished in the 76-100 range in science and the 101-150 range in life sciences.
The survey does not provide numerical rankings outside the top-100 schools or the top-50 in a category.
