Remains the only telecom operator in the world to receive the prestigious global award
March 6, 2013
New Delhi.Uninor has been awarded the prestigious International Safety Award 2013 by the British Safety Council. This is Uninor’s second consecutive win for the award. In doing so, the company also remains the only mobile operator world-wide to receive this recognition.
The International Safety Award is presented by the British Safety Council to organizations that demonstrate commendable work in the field of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE). Uninor won this award after going through a comprehensive and independent audit conducted by the Council to verify the efficiency, effectiveness and reliability of the company’s occupational health, safety and environmental management systems.
The Award will be formally presented to Uninor in a ceremony at London on April 26, 2013.
“In the high visibility pursuit of business and competitive success in the marketplace, achievements on health, safety and environment often go overlooked. Recognitions such as these put the spotlight back on what is important. It is a matter of pride for Uninor, as an organization in its formative years, to have met the high standards that the Telenor Group sets on HSSE and get recognition for them,” said Sumit Sharma, Chief HR Officer of Uninor.
The British Safety Council (BSC) is a global health, safety and environmental charity that works with businesses to improve health, safety and environmental management. The Council is regulated by the UK Government. The International Safety Awards recognize practices across the world that make workplaces and employees safe and bring such efforts to a common global platform.
Uninor’s approach towards HSSE does not only cover certification and compliance from the company’s 2500 strong workforce but in fact extends to the 8900 vendors, business partners and contractors that work with Uninor at each of its locations. This means a holistic approach towards occupational health, safety, security and environment with an objective to improve HSSE performance through systematic work and continuous improvement as well as establishing an HSSE culture both within and outside the organization. Adherence to Uninor’s HSSE standards forms a part of the ‘code of conduct’ and ‘supplier conduct principles’ enshrined in every contract and agreement Uninor signs with its business partners.
Uninor follows a strong risk based approach with a systematic hazard and risk assessment program that is continuously implemented as a part of the Integrated Management System. The IMS is certified on OHSAS 18001:2007, ISO 14001:2004 and PAS 99 :2006 by British Standard Institute in 2011.
Uninor’s HSSE program has been recognized at several internal and external platforms. Some such recognitions include British Safety Council ‘International Safety Award 2012’ and Greentech Safety Gold Award in 2011 & 2012; Telenor Global HSSE Award in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
