Olympic Day is an annual, global celebration that takes place on 23 June. Every year, it sees millions of people – of all ages and from all walks of life – get active and participate in sporting, educational and cultural activities, encouraging them to enjoy and benefit from sport.
To mark the 70th anniversary, this year’s Olympic Day theme is United By, which aims to highlight how sport has the power to unite regardless of age, gender, religion, nationality, ability, and works to build a unified celebration of Olympic Ideas and values.
In the spirit of global peace and unity, Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (the Federation) is joining Olympic athletes, leaders of sport and members of the general public of all ages and abilities across Hong Kong, China to celebrate Olympic Day.
2018 Olympic Day (OD) was concluded successfully at Hong Kong Sports Institute today. Since 1987, the Federation organized the captioned event annually to celebrate this meaningful date and to promote the idea of “Sport for All”.
The Federation was honored to have Mr. Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation and Ms. LEE Pik Sai, Acting Director of Leisure and Culture Services of Leisure and Culture Services Department to officiate at the Event Ceremony. In addition, Mr. YEUNG Tak Keung, JP, Commissioner for Sports of Home Affair Bureau, The Hon MA Fung Kwok, SBS, JP, Legislative Councilor, other government officials and elected officers of the Federation were also present for the kick- off ceremonies.
With the enthusiastic responses from the public, OD was well received with over 2,500 participants, including 23 corporate teams. Our National Sports Associations, government departments and sponsors had also formed teams in the Run, running for joy in the 5 km / 3 km route. The Federation continued to have the Family Run this year to encourage both parents and children to participate in sports event together. At the same time, the Federation was happy to have our athletes from different sports to participate in the event to cheer up for all participants and share their sports experience with the participants, staying fit and active. Athletes included: CHAN Ming Tai (Athletics), HSIEH Kaylin Sin Yan (Fencing), NG Tsz Yau (Badminton) and LAU Shiu Yue (Swimming).
After the Fun Run, a lucky draw was taken place with Samsung Electronics H.K. Company Limited giving out Samsung wireless electronic communication products, Fitness First Limited giving out 1-month membership, FILA Marketing (Hong Kong) Limited giving out sports backpack whereas ClubONE giving out ClubDining 1 year membership as prizes, with a total value of over HK$170,000 (Trade Promotion Competition Licence no.: 50422). Also, sports demonstrations and activity booths were included in the programme of Olympic Day to increase the Olympic and carnival atmosphere. In addition, since Asian Games will be held at Indonesia in August 2018, a set of Asian Games-themed display panel was placed at the venue in order to promote Asian Games-related knowledge and raise public awareness on the 18th Asian Games. Furthermore, the Federation had also arranged a game session related to the Asian Games with Panasonic giving out prizes with value over HK$40,000.
