UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State's University Faculty Senate will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in 112 Kern Graduate Building. The following items will be considered at the meeting:
-- Executive Vice President and Provost Nicholas Jones will present the University Budget Report.
-- Two forensic sessions will be conducted. The first forensic, from the General Education Planning and Oversight Task Force, is "A Progress Report to the University Faculty Senate" and requests input from the Senate about the proposed general education revision. The second forensic, from the Committee on Intra-University Relations, is "Assessment Process for Baccalaureate Programs at Penn State" and requests feedback regarding baccalaureate program assessment reviews.
-- A vote will be taken on a motion from Larry Backer, Dickinson School of Law senator, regarding a resolution pertaining to the Lunar Lion Project. A vote will also be taken on an Advisory/Consultative report from the Committee on Intra-University Relations, "Striking the Right Balance of Faculty Appointment Types at Penn State."
-- The Senate will receive nominations for the three 2014-15 extra-senatorial standing committees -- Faculty Rights and Responsibilities, Standing Joint Committee on Tenure, and University Promotion and Tenure Review Committee -- and nominations for Senate Chair-Elect, Secretary and the Faculty Advisory Committee to the President. Additional nominations may be made from the floor of the Senate; senators making nominations from the floor must have the permission of the person they are nominating.
-- Informational reports will be given on Penn State’s Office for Disability Services and 2-Factor Authentication at Penn State. Reports appearing in the agenda only and posted on the University Faculty Senate website include the Elections Commission’s Roster of Senators by Voting Units for 2014-15, the Committee on Faculty Benefits’ 2013-14 Report on Faculty Salaries, the Joint Diversity Awareness Task Force’s Progress Report and the Committee on University Planning’s University Space Allocation Report. Senators with questions about these reports may send their questions to firstname.lastname@example.org and they will receive a response from the appropriate committee chair.
Members of the University community are invited to attend this meeting. Any member of the University community not a member of the Senate may request the privilege of the floor on any item of business already before the Senate. Such a request must be made to the chair, through the executive director, at least five calendar days before the meeting at which the individual wishes to speak.
