ATLANTA – August x, 2014 – Operation HOPE today announced a generous grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of The UPS.  The lion's share of the $200,000 grant goes to support HOPE Coalition America (HCA), and its emergency preparedness and disaster recovery initiatives.  The UPS Foundation will also sponsor Operation HOPE's 2014 Global Forum.

"This commitment by the UPS Foundation will help us respond to Americans and small businesses in need of urgent crisis assistance and resources," said Oliver Bell, Director of HOPE Coalition America and CEO of the Southern Region.  “When human and natural disaster strikes, HCA is dedicated to helping victims rebuild their lives, families and communities."

The contribution will also support a series of “Lunch and Learn” seminars for The UPS and The UPS Foundation employees. HCA, the only financial emergency preparedness and recovery service in the country, has helped more than 750,000 individuals and small business recovering from such disasters as hurricanes along our nation's coasts, tornados in the heartland, flooding in southern and mid-western states, and major storms in Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi.

Since its formation in 2001, the result of a partnership with the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA, HOPE Coalition America has strengthened and expanded the financial counseling resources available to help individuals and families prepare for disasters and recover in the shortest possible time.

Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, Georgia, the UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues. In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving: non-profit effectiveness, economic and global literacy, encouraging diversity, community safety and environmental sustainability.

The UPS Foundation was established by UPS founder Jim Casey in 1951, and leads UPS's corporate citizenship efforts.  It invests nearly $100 million each year and provides more than 1.8 million hours of UPS employee’s volunteer time into communities across the globe.

Through a partnership with FEMA and the American Red Cross, HCA has developed and expanded financial counseling resources to help individuals and families prepare for disasters and recover in the shortest possible time. Primarily focused on pre and post disaster strategies for America’s economic stability, it is the only financial emergency preparedness and recovery service in the country.
