McLean, Virginia – Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH) announced today that former U.S. Army Chief Information Officer/G-6 Lieutenant General Susan Lawrence (retired), has joined the firm as a senior vice president, effective February 3, 2014. At Booz Allen, Lawrence, a leader in military information technology and communications systems, will join Booz Allen’s Defense Market Group to provide leadership for business initiatives that cut across the defense and security markets. These initiatives include Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4); Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR); enterprise information technology (IT); joint information environments; cyber; integrated mission systems; and emerging defense technologies.

As the Army’s CIO/G-6, Lawrence was responsible for managing the defense enterprise systems, IT infrastructure, C4ISR solutions, and advanced technology used by the military warfighter and the supporting civilian workforce. Additionally, she helped to stand up the U.S. Army Cyber Command and worked directly with senior staff members, including the Chief of Staff of the Army and the Secretary of the Army, to reduce costs and improve effectiveness of industry solutions.

Prior to her role as CIO/G-6, Lawrence served as the Commanding General for the Army’s Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM), where her responsibilities included the Army C4 and Army Enterprise IT. During her extensive 40-year career in the Army, she also served in operational assignments in Europe, South Korea, Southwest Asia, and the United States, and led network, C4, and IT functions during military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Booz Allen’s defense experts help military and national defense agencies develop and implement technology and mission support solutions to deter and defeat today’s evolving threats. Lawrence brings a unique set of skills and experiences to Booz Allen that will help shape, develop, and implement innovative technology solutions for our clients.

“Susan is an extraordinary leader. She led the way in bringing new communications and wireless systems, electronics platforms, and advanced technology to the warfighter, navigating budget pressures, and delivering on the Army’s C4ISR and information technology strategy. She will greatly enhance Booz Allen’s ability to bring pragmatic, operationally-oriented technology, and mission solutions to our defense and security clients,” said Joseph Sifer, Booz Allen Senior Vice President and Army Business Leader.

Originally from Ida Grove, Iowa, Lawrence is a graduate of Campbell University in North Carolina and holds a master’s degree in information systems management from the University of Georgia. She enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1972 and was commissioned an officer in 1979.
