Usdaw is supporting a new initiative which aims to persuade banks, energy providers, mobile phone companies and others to give customers a choice about whether or not they receive paper bills.

The keep Me Posted campaign recognises that many customers find digital communication convenient but studies show that many people rely on paper billing to help them manage their finances. Some people don't have access to online services, or aren't computer literate enough to use them.

16 million consumers aged over fifteen don't have basic online skills.

5.2million households in the UK do not have internet access.

Without paper statements, many customers become more likely to miss payments and less likely to have a handle on their finances.

The campaign wants companies to offer choice to their customers and ensure that no one is excluded from vital services such as access to their bank account.
