PIRAEUS, Greece (NNS) -- The guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), attached to the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG), departed Piraeus, Greece, March 7 to continue its scheduled deployment in the 6th fleet area of operations.

The port visit provided Sailors with the opportunity to meet with the people of Piraeus, and experience the rich history and culture of Greece.

"We had a great port visit in Piraeus," said Command Master Chief Lewis Jackson, the ship's senior enlisted leader. "Our hosts were wonderful and I can't be more proud of how our Sailors conducted themselves in port."

The Morale, Welfard and Recreation (MWR) office provided an opportunity for Sailors to purchase tours of many of the historical sites and monuments in Piraeus and Athens.

"We had really great tour participation, 142 Sailors took tours over two days," said Lt. j.g. Robert Allen, the ship's MWR coordinator. "Our tour guide was absolutely amazing. She was very friendly and knowledgeable."

"The tour was worth every penny," said Fire Controlman 3rd Class Rashad Taylor, from Stockton, Calif. "I really enjoyed experiencing the history and culture here. I've always liked Greek mythology, so to actually see all the ruins in person was really cool for me."

Philippine Sea and other ships of the GHWBSCSG are on a scheduled deployment supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th fleet area of responsibility.
