January 21, 2015 - The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) today named Jake Joines, owner of J2 Construction in Southern Utah, as the 2014 Best in Green (BIG) Young Professional of the Year. The award was given at the Best in Green Awards event held today during the International Builders’ Show.

In its inaugural year, the award was created to recognize one up-and-coming green and sustainable professional in the building industry.

An active green building advocate, Joines was instrumental in starting the first green-build council in Southern Utah and has served as chairman of the green-build council for the last four years. He has certified the largest number of homes to the ICC-700 National Green Building Standard in all of Southern Utah. Joines was nominated for the award by the Southern Utah Home Builders Association.

Jake is a true leader in the green and sustainable building industry, and we are proud to recognize his dedication and achievements,” said NAHB Chairman Kevin Kelly, a home builder and developer from Wilmington, Del. “He has played an integral role in the field and has shown great leadership in bringing together key stakeholders within the industry to champion sustainable building practices.”

The first year of the awards proved to be quite competitive with several impressive entries. Other finalists in this category included:

• Brandon Bryant of Red Tree Builders in North Carolina (nominated by the Asheville Home Builders Association)
• Charles Hendricks of the Gaines Group PLC in Virginia (nominated by the Blue Ridge Home Builders Association)
