FabDesign is a powerful framework and comprehensive suite of tools for creating sheet metal parts. With FabDesign, VX Vision users are able to quickly design complex, multi-part assemblies with a mix of sheet metal, plastic and other components as found in many of today's consumer products and appliances.

FabDesign is an easy-to-use solution for the design and documentation of chassis, brackets, housings and other fabri cated sheet metal components. Using FabDesign, designers create feature-based solid models of sheet metal parts in the context of a full 3D assembly. They can fold and unfold an entire part or individual bends at will and add features to parts in the folded or unfolded state. As sheet metal parts are designed, manufacturability is ensured through automatic creation of bend allowances and reliefs.

As a fully integrated Varimetrix application, FabDesign leverages all the benefits of VX Vision's powerful assembly modeling capabilities, including interference checking and configuration management. VX Vision's drafting has been extended to include automatic documentation of flat-pattern sheet metal layouts.

An important feature of FabDesign is its ability to work with sheet metal parts imported from other systems. "VX Vision is known for its ability to import, heal and work with non-native data of all types from many different systems. FabDesign extends this important capability to sheet metal parts," said Michael Crown, Varimetrix Director of Product Development. "After identifying features that are to be treated as bends with a simple point and click operation, imported parts are indistinguishable from native design data." Another benefit is full access to all of VX Vision's hybrid modeling capabilities. "Although the FabDesign framework is optimized for sheet metal operations, the full complement of VX Vision's hybrid modeling tools is always easily accessible by the user which is especially useful for difficult modeling tasks. FabDesign users are not restricted to only sheet metal specific tools as with many other CAD/CAM systems," says Crown.

FabDesign will be shipped free of charge with any of the VX Vision bundles ordered prior to January 1, 2000. After January 1, the price of FabDesign is US$1,495.

Awarded the NDES Showstopper award by CADENCE magazine and called the product "destined to go down as one of the best new CAD/CAM products of 1999" by CADALYST magazine, VX Vision has been enthusiastically received by the mechanical design market since being introduced in April, 1999 for its innovation and vision in extending advanced mechanical design capabilities to the desktop. Built on a proprietary kernel, VX Vision offers robust and powerful hybrid modeling features making it the CAD/CAM design tool of choice for products requiring aesthetically and ergonomically pleasing shapes, precise geometrically challenging surfaces, and complex assemblies.

Founded in 1985, Varimetrix Corporation has been a developer of powerful, innovative CAD/CAM technology for some of the largest manufacturers in the world. VX Vision is Varimetrix' second CAD/CAM product following VX Classic which was introduced in 1992.
