VHA Inc. Elects Three New Board Members

The three new board members, each elected to three-year terms, include: Michael Butler, president, operations & services, Providence Health & Services, Renton, Wash. Dean Gruner, MD, president and CEO, ThedaCare, Neenah, Wis. Mark E. Larmore, CPA, group senior vice president, CFO and assistant treasurer, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, New York, N.Y.The new chair of the board of directors is Marna Borgstrom, president and CEO, Yale-New Haven Health System, New Haven, Conn. She assumes the post following Patrick Fry, president and CEO of, Sutter Health. “VHA stockholders elected board members because of their breadth and depth of health care expertise and their ability to lead during this time of tremendous change in our industry,” said Curt Nonomaque, president and CEO of VHA. “Our board members bring both national and local perspectives to help our members, and the health care industry at-large, overcome obstacles in reaching their goals.” Having completed their board service, three current board members will depart: Russell D. Harrington Jr., president and CEO, Baptist Health, Little Rock, Ark. Penny Wheeler, M.D., Chief Clinical Officer, Allina Hospitals & Clinics, Minneapolis, Minn. Gary R. Yates, M.D., president Healthcare Performance Improvement and president, Sentara Quality Care Network, Sentara Healthcare, Norfolk, Va. “On behalf of the VHA Board and the Nominating Committee, I would like to thank Russ Harrington, Penny Wheeler and Gary Yates for their service and contributions as members of VHA’s Board of Directors. We are very grateful for their advice, wisdom and counsel,” said Nonomaque. The VHA board includes 20 executives and physicians from member organizations, as well as directors from outside the VHA membership.
