A rush transcript of the Governor's remarks is below:

Happy Holidays. Merry Christmas to all. First I learned the lesson, gift selection is very important, not all gifts are as attractive. I've learned certain gift selection skills, which I'm going to deploy with my own family. But this was a lot of fun. The kids were obviously very pleased and they were very happy. And frankly, I had a lot of fun because these are children who may very well not be receiving a lot gifts this Christmas because of the financial situation that their family is in.

Christmas time, holiday time, I think it's important to step back and remember what we are all personally thankful for. Yes, there are things that have gone wrong over the past year for all of us in our personal lives, but there's also a lot of good things that have happened to us. And we should be thankful for that. We should also remember that there are still many, many people in society who don't have the joyous Christmases that we all see on TV and we all hear about. And to the extent we can give back and help people who need help, which is what today is all about, I think it makes the holidays all the sweeter.

It really is sweeter to give than to receive. And maybe the older you get the more you realize there's more joy from the giving than from the receiving. These toys have been donated by New Yorkers all across the State. It's amazing the outpouring of New Yorkers on these toy drives. State employees have donated, Toys for Tots have donated, we set up regional banks for people to donate. And it was overwhelming, the amount of toys that we've received and that we'll be giving out all across the State today. So, Happy Holidays, safe one for everyone involved. Merry Christmas for those who celebrate Christmas. And today I really do feel in the Christmas spirit and the Christmas season. And the smiles on those kids faces when they got a gift, that's everything.
