Online Program Brings Civic Engagement to College Campuses

Washington,DC – October 4, 2011 – TheVideo GameVoters Network(VGVN) today launched a new program to engage students atcolleges and universities around the United States. The VGVN Ambassador Programwill introduce students to important civic and political issues surrounding theentertainment software industry and empower them to get involved.

VGVNAmbassadors will be the driving force of the program and eligible for upcomingdiscounts, promotions, and prizes. These self-selected students at collegecampuses will promote the mission of VGVN and educate fellow students on thecivic issues surrounding the computer and video game industry. In addition toorganizing important community for future artists, developers or supporters ofthe video games, these Ambassadors will develop great leadership skills andgain valuable volunteer and civic engagement experience. “Hundredsof thousands of VGVN members are active already in this community. Now we’relooking forward to tapping into that same passion and energy among collegestudents, encouraging them to take action on important video game issues andeducate each other about this medium,” said Rich Taylor, senior vice presidentof the Entertainment Software Association.

TheVGVN Ambassador Program utilizes an online platform that will supportAmbassadors as they recruit more members and organize local events. TheAmbassador platform also serves as a collaborative forum for students and VGVNmembers to share ideas, highlight interesting topics about the industry and setup local events.


The VGVN is ESA’s online community with a mission focus on the positive impactthat video games have in our society. Through legislative outreach, activeonline forums, and interaction with both new media and mainstream media, thisnetwork of more than 300,000 individuals is actively promoting the rights ofvideo game creators and consumers. The network is building a groundswell ofsupport for the positive influence video games have on the economy, health andfamilies, artistic expression, education, and everyday life.
