VITAL Media Provides a Complete Production and Management Solution for Streaming Media
Jun 21, 2011
For Immediate Release
Blacksburg, VA. - VTLS Inc. has announced the introduction of VITAL Media, a new streaming media management solution for libraries, schools, businesses, chambers of commerce, local governments and more. VITAL Media is a turnkey solution designed for any organization that wants to create unique digital streaming media content, manage that content and deliver it to users. The solution consists of a suite of hardware and software built around the VITAL Digital Asset Management System. Any organization can use VITAL Media to create a central library of their media assets while managing both access and future usability. VITAL Media tools also provide organizations with the means to produce and publish rich multi-channel media, blending video, audio and PowerPoint presentations into a single media stream.
Streaming media has become phenomenally popular, with the explosion of public media sites like YouTube™. While much of this popularity centers on entertainment, institutions of all types have embraced streaming media for educational and marketing purposes. Vishesh Chachra, Vice President for Emerging Businesses, stated; “streaming rich media has become such an important part of communication today. VITAL Media provides a cost-effective way to build a library of your streaming media, effectively share it with your world and take your organization beyond its existing bricks and bytes.”
VITAL Media provides a solution for different groups. For institutions with the necessary equipment and expertise to produce their own media, VITAL Media provides the means to manage these digital assets, keeping track of where they are published, providing version control and providing a searchable index of the institution’s content. For institutions interested in producing digital media and lacking experience, VTLS offers training and the option of using our recording studio if they do not have access to a studio of their own. For both types of institutions, the VITAL repository can deliver rich media from the VITAL Media cloud, or link to their public publishing location.
Collaboration with the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), the first VITAL Media customer, began in late 2009 and went live in early 2010. Since the launch VCOMTV has produced, hosted and delivered more than 2,000 teaching and learning videos. Traffic has jumped to more than 8,000 visitors per month with 2,200 GB of data transferred. VCOM instructors record lectures in multi-channel formats, synchronizing a PowerPoint presentation or live demo, with lecture instruction. Students can view the videos as often as they like, and usage peaks during exam times. VCOM has plans to use VTLS’s pay-per-subscription service to monetize some of their private content.
According to James F. Wolfe, President of VCOM, "(VCOM) selected VITAL Media for its unique and far-reaching technology solution. VITAL Media makes it possible for students to learn and review at their own pace from both on- and off-campus locations. Considering the typical schedule of medical students, especially those on clinical rotations, this is an enormous benefit."
