New Delhi July 28, 2011:: The Indian telecom industry joined by the chairman of Telecom Commission Mr. R Chandrashekhar celebrated its achievements for the year 2010-11 here late last evening by recognizing key industry leaders and companies that had excelled to together clocking revenues of US $ 63 billion (Rs. 283,207 crore) at the 12th Voice&Data 100 awards ceremony. The telecom industry revenues comprises telecom equipment revenue Rs. 117,039 crore and telecom services revenue of Rs. 166,168 crore.


Speaking on the occasion, Mr. R Chandrashekhar, Chairman, Telecom Commission and Secretary, Department of Telecommunications lauded the Indian telecom industry for providing voice connectivity to Indians in the deep interiors of the country. He sought industry help in now providing data connectivity by extending the broadband penetration to the village level. For achieving data connectivity at the village level the government has planned an outlay of Rs 20,000 crore, he added.



Mr. Chandrashekhar also exhorted the industry to encourage a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among young India so as to develop an ecosystem of building solutions and applications that can help consumers derive fuller benefits at affordable costs.




Sanjeev Aga is the Voice&Data Telecom Person of the year


Mr. Chandrashekhar presented the Voice&Data Telecom Person of the Year 2011 award to Mr. Sanjeev Aga, former MD, Idea Cellular for transformed his company from a regional player to a pan-India player, and despite being late in terms of pan India coverage has a healthy subscriber base and revenue.



To honour the innovative spirit, Voice&Data presented the emerging company of the year award to Micromax Informatics, a company that in just 3 years has grown commendably from a niche company to a name synonymous with the most stylish as well as, affordable mobile phones. Mr. Rajesh Agarwal, Managing Director, Micromax received the award.



The Voice & Data Technovator of The Year 2010 award went to Mr. Rakesh Verma, MD and co-founder, Map My India, a company that has been at the forefront of innovation to bring entertainment-on-the-go. Map My India is driving the Indian navigation industry by providing internet, mobile and in-car navigation products, to end consumers directly, as well as, in partnership with leading international and national players.



The Green Company of the Year award went to Indus Towers and Viom Networks for initiating green solutions to provide clean and green energy by adopting non-renewable energy sources and also optimizing energy usage by deploying various techniques.



Indus Towers today boasts of one of the largest portfolios of green sites among all telecom companies including 728 solar power sites and a plan to take this number to 2500. The company also bagged the Top Telecom Towers Company award.



Viom Networks has deployed innovative technologies like: Free Cooling Units, Fuel Catalyst and Underground Heat Exchanger to reduce energy consumption.



Three top awards went to public sector telecom giants BSNL and ITI. While Mr. R K Upadhyay, CMD, BSNL received top awards for the Top Fixed Line Service Provider and Top Broadband Service Provider category Mr. K L Dhingra, CMD, ITI receive the award for being the Top Telecom Turnkey Company.



Two Bharti group companies—Bharti Airtel bagged Top Cellular Service Operator, Telecom Service Provider and Top NLD Operator while Beetel Teletech bagged the Top Fixed Phone company title. Bharti crossed the 100 million subscriber mark, realized its dream of becoming India's first telecom MNC, and extending its footprint to Bangladesh and Africa and posting revenues nearly Rs. 60,000 crore.



Finnish group Nokia companies bagged 4 awards with Nokia India picking up Top Mobile Phone Company, and Top Equipment Company honours. Top Carrier Equipment Company and Top Wireless Infrastructure Company awards went to Nokia Siemens Networks.

Top Transmission Company:Alcatel Lucent with revenues of Rs 965 crore



Top Voice Solutions Company:Avaya



Top Network Storage Company:EMC with revenues of Rs. 388 crore



Top Power Management Company:Delta Power Solutions



Top Tablet Computers Company:Samsung India



International Long Distance Services Operator:Tata Communications with revenues of Rs 8,631 crore



Top Telecom Software Company:Tech Mahindra with revenues of Rs 4,735 crore



Top Broadband Infrastructure Provider:Ericsson India



Top Company For Routers, Switches, And Wireless LAN:Cisco



Top Audio/Video Conferencing Company:Polycom



Top Modem Company:ATRIE Technology



Top Data Card Company:Huawei



Top Telecom Cable Company:Sterlite Technologies



Top VSAT Operator:Hughes Communications.



Top Network Integration Company:Wipro Infotech.



Top Test & Measurement Company:Agilent Technologies
