WABCO Demonstrates Advanced Safety Technologies at India’s First-Ever Truck Racing Championship; Tata Motors recognizes WABCO as Braking Technology Partner

NEW DELHI, India – March 22, 2014 – WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE: WBC), a global technology leader and tier-one supplier of safety and efficiency systems to the commercial vehicle industry, will demonstrate its industry leading safety and efficiency technologies at India’s first-ever T1 PRIMA Truck Racing Championship. Tata Motors has recognized WABCO as its Braking Technology Partner and will host the race on March 23, 2014 at the acclaimed Buddh International Formula 1 Circuit in Greater Noida.

Overall, six truck racing teams will compete in the T1 PRIMA Truck Racing Championship showcasing twelve of Tata Motors’ state-of-the-art PRIMA Model 4038.S trucks. All of the specially customized race vehicles will feature a number of safety and efficiency technologies drawn from WABCO’s extensive global portfolio.

“As the local market leader for commercial vehicle safety and control technologies, WABCO is honored to sponsor Tata Motors’ T1 PRIMA Truck Racing Championship as its official Braking Technology Partner. We are excited to showcase the high performance of our advanced braking systems in a racing environment, which represents the most extreme conditions for heavy duty trucks,” said Jacques Esculier, WABCO Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “The fifty years of experience we have gained from innovating safety and vehicle control systems here in India means that WABCO technologies are helping to protect drivers not just on the race track, but in the hundreds of thousands of trucks and buses on India’s roads every day.”

Each race truck is equipped with a fully integrated compressed air system that includes WABCO’s high-performance Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) alongside high-output compressor technology, advanced air processing systems and braking components.

WABCO was the first company to introduce ABS to the commercial vehicle industry and today has sold more than eight million systems globally. ABS enhances the stability and steerability of vehicles in even the most extreme braking events. WABCO also combines its world-class braking components with advanced control systems to improve the response time and reduce the braking distance of vehicles. In addition, WABCO’s innovative high-output compressor technologies and air processing systems also improve the efficiency of vehicles by lowering their weight and fuel consumption.

WABCO’s vision is to help significantly reduce the number of commercial vehicle accidents worldwide. In a 2012 study, India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways attributed 77 percent of road accidents to drivers losing control over their vehicles. WABCO’s innovative technologies such as Anti-Lock Braking, ESCsmart™ roll stability control, OptiDrive™ automated manual transmission and OnGuard™ collision mitigation are widely recognized by commercial vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators for their ability to improve driver effectiveness and road safety.

Over the past five years, WABCO has helped to improve the safety of 25,000 petroleum and hazardous goods carriers in India alone by fitting them with the company’s robust Anti-Lock Braking System.
