Washington Lawmakers Allow DUI Violators to Keep License
North Hollywood, CA - (PressReleasePoint) - January 20, 2008 — 2insure4less.com, a leading insurance quote comparison website reports that Washington legislature has approved a new provision that will allow Those convicted of drunk driving with a suspended license to more quickly obtain their driving privileges.
The legislation is intended to curb the amount of people with suspended licenses and no auto insurance from taking to the roads illegally. The law requires such individuals to have proof of auto insurance and purchase an ignition interlock device. The device makes the driver take a breathalyzer test before starting the car. If alcohol is detected, the car will not start. This program also requires a total monthly expense fee of $100 dollars. “It is likely that the driver’s auto insurance rates would increase dramatically as well, adding even more to their monthly out-of-pocket costs,” explains 2insure4less.com CEO Eric Oster.
The device can remain on the car anywhere for 1 year to 10 years depending on the severity of the driver’s DUI record. Proponents of the law change say that suspending a driver’s license does little to keep people with risky driving behavior from driving. Lawmakers believe that this device will help in keeping drunk drivers from driving but it remains to be seen whether or not it encourages these drivers to carry auto insurance coverage at all times.
