Collection to benefit Rhode Island Food Banks throughout the month of March
Westerly, Rhode Island... Did you know that just one jar of peanut butter will make 16 sandwiches for a hungry family? This is why since 2001 Washington Trust have been committed to collecting peanut butter to benefit local Rhode Island Food Banks. Now in its 14th year, the Peanut Butter Drive is entering its biggest collection effort to date, with scores of schools, businesses and Rhode Island institutions joining Washington Trust in its mission to make a difference in the community.
Since the Peanut Butter Drive began in 2001, Washington Trust has collected more than 105 tons of peanut butter. In addition to collection sites at all Washington Trust locations, this year, throughout the month of March into mid-April, other area businesses, schools and organizations participating in the Drive include Trinity Rep, CVS Customer Relations, Metro Park, Block Island’s Old Island Pub, Block Island’s Club Soda, New Shoreham Public Safety, Bradford School, Matunuck Elementary School, Eden Park School and more. At Yawgoo Valley, buy one lift ticket and get one free with a jar of peanut butter or a $5 donation to benefit the Jonny Cake Center in Peacedale. Additionally, Roger Williams Zoo is offering one free child ticket to anyone who brings a jar of peanut butter to the park between March 1st and March 31st (one per family, not in combination with other offers).
A special Skating With the Stars event will take place to benefit the Peanut Butter Drive on Saturday, March 1st at the Washington Trust Community Skating Center in Downtown Westerly. Anyone who brings a jar of peanut butter or makes a donation to the Rhode Island Food Bank will be able to skate for free that day from 12-4pm. On Friday, March 14th, the Providence Bruins will host a peanut butter collection night during their game against the Worcester Sharks at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence.
Participants can also Donate the Difference by opting for a peanut butter sandwich for lunch and donating what they would have otherwise spent going out to a restaurant. All Donate the Difference donations directly benefit the Rhode Island Food Bank.
