The adventure tour operator responds to increase in demand for marine voyages
Gap Adventures has witnessed a huge growth in demand among adventure travellers for small-ship cruising and sailing options that offer an alternative to mega-ship voyages.
The company offers travellers the chance to explore the Amazon, Antarctica, Galapagos, Greece and Thailand onboard its vessels.
The increase in demand has seen the tour operator’s unforgettable Arctic cruise programme completely sell out for 2010, whilst its Greek sailing trips have grown so popular that Gap Adventures now operate five boats, up from two just six years ago.
The ever-expanding Thailand sailing programme, launched in 2009, also virtually sold out in its first year. Plans are already afoot to include Ko Samui sailing trips in Thailand from June to September 2011 to meet the year-round demand.
While each of these maritime voyages is different, they all share the tour operator’s trademark sustainable and authentic thrills and always include plenty of time to enjoy the unique local wildlife and intriguing cultures.
For those who live to sail the high seas, Gap Adventures has some unforgettable voyages:
Thailand Sailing Adventure (starting at £779 per adult, trip code ATSA)
A relaxing seven-day island hop in Southern Thailand, the trip explores some of the world’s most pristine turtle and manta ray-laden waters aboard a spacious 37-foot sailing catamaran
Greek Islands Sailing Adventure (starting at £969 per adult, trip code GVSS)
There is probably no better way to visit some of the world’s most beautiful islands than aboard one of Gap Adventures’ 50-foot yachts. The 10-day voyage, which starts and ends in Santorini, explores ancient archaeological sites, taverna-lined harbours and offers plenty of chances to try local Ouzo on picturesque Greek islands including Naxos, Paros, Ios, Mykonos and Santorini
Voyage Galapagos (starting at £1929 per adult, trip code EV10P)
Enjoy the amazing wildlife of the Galapagos Islands aboard Gap Adventures’ 72-foot g1 motor yacht on this unforgettable 10-day voyage led by Galapagos National Park-certified staff and a naturalist guide
Antarctica Classic (starting at £4059 per adult, trip code XVCASX)
An awe-inspiring, 11-day adventure aboard M/S Expedition exploring the rugged South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. The area is home to some of the continent’s most dramatic landscapes and impressive wildlife including huge penguin rookeries, seal colonies and whales. This is the ultimate trip for fans of cold-weather cruising
Amazon Riverboat Adventure (starting at £1029, trip code PVIIT)
Journey down the mighty Amazon River on this 10-day voyage of discovery. Learn about ‘life on the river’ and take in diverse wildlife including sloths, toucans and pink dolphins
Gap Adventures has long brought happiness to the lives of maritime-travel fans with its line up of cruising and sailing experiences covering the globe, from the icy shores of Antarctica to the steamy jungles of the Amazon River Delta. Indeed, for fans of the high seas, few travel options are more intriguing than setting out on the open ocean with a small group of new friends to explore remote islands, cruise the crystal blue waters off sun-kissed beaches or skim the ocean’s surface alongside bottlenose dolphins or humpback whales.
“We always pay close attention to industry trends, and we’re happy to satisfy the demands of this growing community of sailing and cruising enthusiasts,” says Bruce Poon Tip, Gap Adventures founder.
“We love changing people’s lives with our trips and these are virtually guaranteed to achieve that goal.”

About Gap Adventures
Gap Adventures (www.gapadventures.com) was established in 1990 by avid adventurer, Bruce Poon Tip. The Canadian entrepreneur is still at the helm of the company, which is now the world’s largest independently-owned adventure tour operator, offering more than 1,000 small group experiences, safaris and expeditions on all seven continents to more than 100,000 travellers a year.
The company’s worldwide adventures focus on wildlife encounters, active travel and cultural interaction, appealing to those who want to get off the beaten track and experience local culture. Its non-profit organisation, Planeterra (www.planeterra.org), was established in 2003 as a way for the company and its passengers to give back to the communities visited around the globe.
