WATG and Wimberly Interiors scoop coveted ‘International Designer of 2018’ accolade and ‘Best Hotel in Asia’ for St. Regis Astana

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 2018

LONDON, 4th July 2018 – World leading integrated design firm WATG and Wimberly Interiors, the interior design studio of WATG, have picked up two prestigious awards for their acclaimed international work at The International Hotel and Property Awards, The Design Society awarded the firm the evening’s most sought-after prize International Designer of 2018, while also scooping the accolade for Best Hotel in Asia for the St. Regis Astana.

The awards were presented to Jeremy Heyes, Senior Vice President of WATG, and Rachel Johnson, Vice President and London Studio Director of Wimberly Interiors, at the breath-taking Grand Hotel Quisisana in Capri, Italy, during the award ceremony on Friday 29th June. Hosted by UK publication design et al, project entries were submitted from all over the globe.

The highest accolade was awarded by The Design Society as a recognition of innovation and excellence within the industry, selecting WATG and Wimberly Interiors as International Designer of 2018.  As an organisation that helps to promote and work alongside the world’s leading design names, The Design Society creates a platform for uniting the design world and engaging the global design community.

WATG and Wimberly Interior’s design for the St. Regis Astana won the award for Best Hotel in Asia. Located on the banks of the Ishim River, the integrated design team used the hotels’ prominent location to inspire a design that highlights the distinct cultural heritage of Astana. The design took a traditional, yet grand approach to luxury hotel design, using a hierarchy of spaces and forms to make the building an icon within the city scape.

The unique architecture, landscape and interior design by WATG and Wimberly Interiors allow us to bring an insightful and layered storytelling alive throughout all aspects of the hotel, which is paramount in delivering an immersive guest experience,” said Luciano Sozzo, General Manager of The St. Regis Astana.

These two awards mark a significant recognition of WATG’s commitment to an integrated design process across its global teams working in strategy, planning, architecture, landscape, and interior design. The seamless coordination of project management across multiple disciplines is represented well by the holistic design delivered with the St. Regis Astana, made possible by the breadth of WATG’s knowledge, experience, and collaborative design process.

Commenting on the firm’s International Designer of 2018 award, Anthony Mallows, President + CEO, said: On behalf of our entire team, we are thrilled to receive this award from The Design Society. It is a wonderful testament to the passion and creativity of our global design team.

This was a fitting tribute for WATG and Wimberly Interiors who designed over 240 projects in 52 countries on four continents in 2017 on behalf of distinguished brands such as Bellagio, St. Regis, Hard Rock, Nobu, Four Seasons, Fairmont, Ritz-Carlton, Viceroy, EDITION, Belmond, Rosewood, and Hyatt.

Jeremy Heyes, Senior Vice President of WATG and Rachel Johnson, Vice President and Studio Director of Wimberly Interiors commented: “We are so proud of this award. We worked closely with our clients to transform their vision into an inspired, successful, integrated design. The accolade of the evening, The Design Society Award, was awarded by our fellow industry professionals. With such a strong field of entrants, it is a tremendous achievement and incredibly humbling.”
