Laurie Weingart, Carnegie Bosch Professor of Organizational Behavior and Theory, has been selected as the Director of the Center for Excellence in Communication and Leadership (EXCL). She will be joined by Evelyn Pierce, Associate Teaching Professor in Management Communications, who will serve as Associate Director.
The center will play a vital role in the Tepper School of Business's new curriculum strategy to help students excel as influential, successful leaders and communicators- building upon a foundation in strong analytical skills and mastery of complex business problems.
Professors Weingart and Pierce will work with students, faculty, and staff to develop and implement new ways of integrating leadership and communication practices that will complement the training students receive in coursework and activities at the Tepper School. Initiatives will include one-to-one tutoring in communications techniques, enhanced leadership and communications support for student activities, integration of communication support for courses and faculty, development of coaching workshops and the advancement of a leadership assessment and training program, in which 75 students are currently participating as volunteers and which will be a requirement for all students in 2012.
EXCL (formerly known as CECL) was launched in February, 2010, and has already provided over 1200 hours of individualized student support. Students have submitted exceptionally positive feedback about their one-to-one coaching experiences. Additional Information is available online atCenter for Excellence in Communication and Leadership.
