Simon Hamilton may only have launched his new business three months ago, but with support from Business Gateway West Dunbartonshire the marine engineering consultant has already picked up contracts in Canada, Denmark and the Bahamas.

“Hamilton Marine has started well,” said Simon. “I now have four engineers working with me to deliver a range of services including ship inspections, ship repairs and dockings, and superintendent services.

“We are also involved in project management – especially in the area of Green Technology where we have been involved in the design and install of a new Exhaust Gas Cleaning System – and we are currently planning a move into the renewable energy sector.”

With 21 years working experience with some of the biggest names in the shipping industry, there was no doubt Simon had the technical expertise to launch Hamilton Marine (www.linkedin.com/in/hamiltonmarine ) but he knew he would also benefit from some specialist business advice.

“Business Gateway has been very supportive and my adviser helped me pull my business plan together. I attended a range of very useful and free workshops where I picked up invaluable information on everything from marketing and social media to recruitment and business planning.

Our experience in working with many different ship types in a variety of shipping environments will be key to our future growth plans and I will certainly be looking to Business Gateway to help us identify and maximise opportunities moving forward.
