Wilderness First Aid Certification Classes Being Offered in Raleigh North Carolina
North Carolina rock climbing guides and outdoor professionals Ascent Adventure Consultants now provide Wilderness First Aid certification, through the American Red Cross. The first class being offered is in conjunction with the American Alpine Club, on July 18th and 19th, 2009 at Umstead State Park, Cary NC.
Apex, NC, May 28, 2009 (PressReleasePoint) -- Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is a 16 hour course focusing on basic backcountry emergency response. As opposed to standard First Aid, Wilderness First Aid courses train attendees in how to care for injured people and/or to respond to emergencies when emergency medical services are not immediately available. Anyone who spends time in the woods hiking, climbing, camping, or even kayaking and canoeing should consider taking a Wilderness First Aid course, so that they can be confident that they are equipped to handle emergencies that they may face, and to best care for the people with them.
The North Carolina Ascent Adventure Consultants Wilderness First Aid course will have a mountaineering and climbing emphasis, but will still have application to any outdoor activity. Topics covered will include: causes and preventions of wilderness injury, seven steps of a wilderness first aid response, first aid treatment of specific wilderness conditions, and patient transfer and evacuation. Participants will learn what items to carry in a first aid kit, and how to properly use the equipment in their kits.
“By teaching WFA courses we are contributing to the health, safety, and wellness of many people who pursue outdoor adventure in the Triangle area,” says Brandon Hensinger, owner of Ascent Adventure Consultants. “We hope that people never experience emergencies, but we are honored to be able to equip people with the tools they need if they ever would face an emergency or injury in the backcountry.”
