WildPackets Announces OmniSpectrum v3.0, a Portable 802.11 Spectrum Analysis Solution for Everyone
Shows the causes and effects of WLAN interference
Walnut Creek, California, August 14, 2006
– WildPackets Inc., innovators in advanced network analysis, today announced a significant upgrade to OmniSpectrum , a mobile spectrum analysis solution. OmniSpectrum enables IT engineers to measure RF interference jeopardizing WLAN performance and to identify and locate the sources of that interference. RF interference remains a hidden threat to most enterprise WLANs, creating network congestion and causing network connections to drop suddenly. Without spectrum analysis, IT organizations have no way of measuring interference or identifying the sources of interference, which can be as various as cordless phones and microwave ovens. The OmniSpectrum solution, which runs on a standard Windows laptop, provides advanced spectrum analysis in a low-cost, portable form factor that’s ideal for busy network administrators and IT service technicians.
Identifying and quantifying interference is key
OmniSpectrum v3.0 introduces more new graphical displays about channel usage, noise, and interference that augment the charts and graphical plots in earlier OmniSpectrum releases. Administrators can see at a glance which channels are over-utilized, and by what devices, whether the interference sources are 802.11 or non-802.11 devices. Detailed information on what is causing the interferences in each channel is just a mouse-over away. OmniSpectrum also presents unequivocal, real-time data relating the signal strength for each AP to the interference and noise for each 802.11 channel. Taking advantage of OmniSpectrum’s new alert features, administrators can quickly identify troublesome interference sources that threaten network performance or security.
OmniSpectrum v3.0 includes significant UI enhancements that make it easier than ever for users to customize the dashboard, to navigate among screens, to access detailed data, and to perform useful actions with a single click. Based on patented spectrum intelligence technology from Cognio, Inc., OmniSpectrum provides the best first line of defense in diagnosing 802.11 problems, and complements WildPackets’ wireless network analysis products.
OmniSpectrum, which includes a Windows application and a CardBus PC card, costs $3,995. OmniSpectrum v3.0 will be commercially available within the next 30 days. To request a demo or place an order, please call (925) 937-3200.
