Will the opportunistic investment strategy be able to revive the pension funds industry? What is your view?

There are good opportunities in the investment strategy for pension funds, says a global survey of asset managers from Create-Research, commissioned by Citi's Global Transaction Services (GTS) and Principal Global Investors. Defined benefit (DB) or final salary pension clients can still find out opportunistic investment in spite of the severe crisis.

Of the 225 asset managers surveyed, 60 percent and 30 percent expect DB and defined contribution (DC) clients, respectively, to go for opportunistic investment. The survey found out that managers are attracted towards the dislocated debt markets as it is creating value opportunities in the times of downturn. 60 percent of the asset managers expect DB clients to increase allocations to global equities and 53 percent expect them to increase allocations to investment grade bonds. In addition, 67 percent predict that DB clients will favor liability driven investment strategies. 61 percent of respondents predict a continued favor of debt and equities by DB clients. Read more..
