Willamette Valley art exhibit on display in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Ore. – The second in a series of art exhibits about Oregon's Willamette Valley, sponsored by the Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences, is on display at the River Gallery in Independence.

A gallery talk by Native American artist Rick Bartow will be held on Saturday, May 16, from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by an artists' reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the gallery at 184 South Main St. in Independence.

The exhibit continues through July 5 and is the second in a three-part series focusing on Oregon's productive Willamette River valley. The show is called "Everlasting Valley II: Willamette River Valley Farms" and includes artwork from the OSU Art About Agriculture permanent collection. Nineteen artists who are represented in the permanent collection also were invited to submit recent works for the exhibit.

The inaugural show in the series focused on the upper river valley from the source waters of the Willamette River to Albany. This second show concentrates on the middle river valley from Albany to Newberg. The third show will be announced soon.

About the OSU College of Agricultural Sciences: The college contributes in many ways to the economic and environmental sustainability of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. The college's faculty are leaders in agriculture and food systems, natural resources management, life sciences and rural economic development research.
