Work on the Train Route to DCA Could Affect Airport Passengers
Planned track work on the train route that serves Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport could have an impact on passengers looking to get to the airport later this year.
Suffield, CT, July 19, 2011 (PressReleasePoint) -- This is because weekend shutdowns have been proposed so that the planned work can be carried out, but it could cause issues for passengers – particularly for the weekend before this year’s Thanksgiving when a shutdown has been announced for the station serving Washington Reagan.
It’s due to be one of the busiest weekends of the year for the airport. A survey from 2010 also suggests that around 21% of passengers use the train to get to and from DCA, which suggests there could be a few issues if the planned work goes ahead in the run-up to Thanksgiving.
The company responsible for the track works has said they’ll look again at the calendar of work if it looks like there are serious concerns. Despite this, passengers due to fly out of Reagan Washington National Airport might want to think in advance about making alternative travel arrangements in case the shutdowns go ahead and they are unable to take the train to DCA.
One option for passengers is to try DCA off airport parking lots, of which there are more than five serving Washington Reagan within three miles of the airport. As well as a range of different parking options, they also include a free airport shuttle to take passengers direct to their terminal. It could prove a useful alternative for those people inconvenienced by the planned temporary rail closures.
