Freie Universität One of Five Most Highly Regarded Universities in Germany
№ 74/2014 from Mar 06, 2014
In its latest World Reputation Rankings, the Times Higher Education (THE) magazine again includes Freie Universität among the 100 most highly regarded universities of the world. The university improved its position again this year, reaching the 81-90 group. It is also again one of the five most respected German universities. A spin-off of the annual THE World University Rankings, the reputation ranking, according to THE, is based on the world’s largest invitation-only academic opinion survey.
The six German universities to appear among the Top 100 are, in addition to Freie Universität, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (place 46), Technische Universität München (group 61-70), Universität Heidelberg (group 61-70), Humboldt-Universität (71-80), and RWTH Aachen (91-100).
In recent research rankings, Freie Universität also took positions among the top 100 universities. In the THE World University Ranking from October 2013, Freie Universität (place 22) along with Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (place 21) was one of the best German universities in the humanities. In the same ranking, Freie Universität placed among the 100 best universities in two other subject areas: the university reached place 87 in the social sciences and 94 in the life sciences. The prestigious QS World University Rankings by Subject, published just days ago, places Freie Universität Berlin among the 200 best universities worldwide in 21 of 30 subjects considered – whereby four of the 30 subjects are in the fields of engineering, and they are not offered by Freie Universität. In four subjects – history (place 14 worldwide), modern languages (31), sociology (34), and philosophy (37) – Freie Universität was ranked among the 50 best universities worldwide. In history, no German university was ranked higher than Freie Universität.
