XL Group’s Surplus Lines unit today promoted Michael Gramm to Vice President, Excess. Previously, Mr. Gramm served as Vice President - Excess Auto business, leading a team that helps business address transportation risks. In his new role, he assumes underwriting management responsibility for all of XL’s Surplus Lines’ excess business including commercial umbrella and excess casualty books of business.
Mr. Gramm is based in Chicago and reports to Michael Garceau, XL Group’s Chief Operating Officer for North America Property and Casualty.
According to Mr. Garceau, “When Mike joined us in 2012, he was given the challenging task of starting an excess auto book of business from the ground up. And in less than two years, he built an impressive, and growing, profitable book of excess auto business. We are looking forward to seeing Mike put his underwriting skill and judgment across our other Surplus Lines’ excess products to excelerate our growth plans and continue to build on our relationships with wholesale brokers and clients who need added layers of protection to address complex risks.”
Mr. Gramm joined XL from Markel Corporation where he was Director, Transportation Product Lines. He brings a decade of dedicated transportation risk management experience to XL Group’s Surplus Lines team. Mr. Gramm earned an MBA from Case Western Reserve University and his undergraduate degree from Towson University.
